Weaverland Internet Policy
The Mt. Pleasant Technology Committee has been established to assist church members in using the internet. Its goal is to provide a way for members to avail themselves of the many useful aspects of the internet, while providing protection against its dangers through brotherhood accountability.
Usage guidelines are established with the expectation that users recognize that the internet is a tool for accomplishing tasks and not a toy or a source of entertainment through nonessential browsing that steals time from us.
The internet plan for Mt. Pleasant and Ottoline Mennonite churches requires that an approved program be installed on all devices used by members to access the internet.
The approved program now is Qustodio. Qustodio works very well on laptops, desktops, android, and iOS devices.
A committee member must install the program. Once your device is registered in the system, you are assigned a number, so that your name is not attached to your usage report.
If there is an issue with usage your committee member can look up your name so the problem can be worked with.
The program tracks web traffic, blocks pornography, and restricts specific apps. Messages, phone calls, and e-mails remain private and cannot be read by the committee.
Guidelines:
• No game playing
• No social media
• Limited video usage
◦ No video for entertainment
◦ Task based to accomplish a specific task.
◦ Informational to research products etc.
